Uterine fibroids affect around 80% of women of African American descent and 70% of women of Caucasian descent. Life can be extremely difficult with uterine fibroids. UFE Treatment at USA Fibroid Centers
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) uterine fibroids lead to more than 200,000 hysterectomies every year. At USA Fibroid Centers, we offer minimally invasive, outpatient, treatment for uterine fibroids called, Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). Our doctors use ultrasound technology to locate the fibroids in the uterus. This is to determine if you can be a candidate for the UFE procedure. Once the fibroids have been mapped, the myoma is shrunk by inserting a tiny catheter. (i.e. tiny tube) The catheter supplies small particles that block the arteries and blood flow. This causes the fibroid to ultimately shrink up to 50% in size. The procedure only takes between 30-45 minutes, there are no long hospital stays.
Unlike surgical treatments (hysterectomy and myomectomy) to treat fibroids, UFE allows you to recover in the comfort of your own home and resume normal activities almost immediately. UFE doesn’t force women to make difficult, expensive choices that are ultimately permanent. The majority of women who choose UFE, feel immense relief from their fibroid pain, have shorter and lighter menstrual periods, less frequent urination, and diminished bloating.
