Yan Katsnelson, M.D., Founder and CEO of USA Clinics Group, began his career as a cardiac surgeon. After two decades, he discovered a “new kind of magic” in minimally invasive procedures. Witnessing that treatment didn’t always require large incisions or major surgeries, he became fascinated by achieving meaningful results with less-invasive techniques. This passion for non-surgical solutions led to the creation of USA Clinics Group, a nationwide network of outpatient clinics offering a wide range of specialized services, including USA Fibroid Centers, which are dedicated to treating a wide variety of conditions through a collaborative approach.
Over time, he saw how medicine was evolving in many areas, yet women’s healthcare, specifically fibroid treatment, remained reliant on aggressive surgical procedures. Women were often advised to undergo a hysterectomy, which permanently removes the uterus and causes infertility. The often widely recommended alternative was myomectomy, a surgery that removes fibroids but has a high risk of fibroid recurrence.
Expanding Access to Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)
Dr. Katsnelson saw that countless women were undergoing unnecessary hysterectomies when a non-surgical alternative, uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), was available. UFE is a minimally invasive procedure that shrinks fibroids by blocking their blood supply. UFE allows women to find relief from symptoms without losing their fertility or undergoing major surgery.
“For nearly 30 years, uterine fibroid embolization has been an FDA-approved treatment, yet only a small percentage of women had received it,” Katsnelson said. “USA Fibroid Centers took it upon itself to change that—to educate women and ensure they know all their options beyond major surgery.”
Medicine has made significant strides in many areas, yet women’s healthcare has often been overlooked. Dr. Katsnelson founded USA Fibroid Centers to change that. He wants to provide women with treatment options that provide lasting relief without the need for invasive surgery or long recoveries.
Expanding Care Through Other Services
Dr. Katsnelson’s passion for minimally invasive procedures began with treating vein conditions. As a heart surgeon, he saw firsthand how outdated, painful surgical methods could be replaced with advanced techniques that dramatically improved patients’ lives. He was struck by the fact that many common conditions, like venous insufficiency, caused daily suffering could benefit.
This realization led Katsnelson to expand into arterial treatments, recognizing that circulation issues affected both veins and arteries and that patients needed accessible, effective solutions. Seeing the parallels between outdated vein treatments and the surgical approach to fibroids, Dr. Katsnelson was driven to offer a more effective alternative.
Since then, a network of specialized services has been established, offering comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions. These include knee arthritis, hemorrhoids, enlarged prostate, peripheral artery disease, and preventative CT scans to support early detection and treatment.
